Why Sintered Stone is the Future of Luxury Interiors
For decades, natural marble was the uncontested material of choice for luxury interiors. Architects specified it. Developers demanded it. Homeowners aspired to it. But the material has a problem: it is fundamentally inconsistent, porous, and high-maintenance.
Enter sintered stone. Engineered by compressing natural minerals under 15,000 tonnes of pressure at temperatures exceeding 1,200°C, sintered stone inherits the visual drama of natural stone while eliminating its practical shortcomings.
The result is a surface with near-zero water absorption, scratch resistance rated at MOHS Class 6–7, and a consistency of patterning that natural quarrying simply cannot guarantee.
Altara's collections are designed in collaboration with Italian pattern studios, ensuring that each slab reads as a considered design decision rather than a material compromise.
