Designing with Sintered Stone Outdoors
Outdoor material specification is a different discipline from interior design. The material must resist UV degradation over a 20-year lifespan and maintain slip resistance in wet conditions.
Most natural stones fail at least one of these criteria. Marble is UV-sensitive — the calcite matrix yellows under prolonged sun exposure. Limestone is porous and absorbs tropical rainfall.
Sintered stone was engineered for exactly this context. Its near-zero porosity means there is no matrix for moisture to penetrate. Its mineral composition is UV-stable.
For pool surrounds, rooftop terraces, and covered outdoor living areas in Indonesia's climate, sintered stone is not the premium option. It is the rational one.
